Is it really Shotokan?

For most of us, we grew up knowing Ryu's fighting style is Shotokan Karate as said in the manual of the American version of Street Fighter II. But is this really Ryu's discipline? First of all, Ryu does not show the basic stance of Shotokan Karate. Ryo Sakazaki and his Kyokugen-Ryu would be a more likely candidate for the style. It is said that Ryu's stance is more similar to Kyokushinkai Karate. But despite the names of the styles of karate we try to compare Ryu's fighting style to, there is not one karate school that could actually teach you to do a honest to goodness Hadoken. Well thanks to Street Fighter IV, and the appearance of Gouken who taught Ryu the art, the actual name of his fighting style was finally revealed. Are you ready for this?

Wow, that's a long name!
