The Last Airbender

I have finished the animated series so I pretty have a good idea how great the story is. So in a way, I did the same thing before watching Dragonball Evolution. Lowering your standards before watching a movie works very well, especially if the movie is based off something else.

Too bad the name Avatar was already used by a different movie. Damn you James Cameron! Although that Avatar movie was pretty good. Since they used Jim's name on the title, can't we just call it M. Night Shyamalan's Avatar: The Last Airbender? I guess not.

Well the movie is based on Book One: Water. They compressed the story a lot. But for those who never seen the animated series, it pretty much tells the whole water book in detail. The action sequences are fun to watch, and the opening sequence of the movie was spot on with the animated series. However, I still find it awkward to see Indians representing the fire nation. But after thinking of Street Fighter's Dhalsim, It kinda makes some sense. The movie lacked humor, which is something I enjoyed in the animated series. They made the movie too serious, and the pacing was too fast. But the special effects were awesome.

So far, the movie wasn't really that good based on my standards, but it wasn't that bad either. If I were to rate the movie, I would give it something like 3 out of 5. I guess M. Night could still improve on the next two books.

I was kinda laughing in one sequence of the movie when I saw this guy:
