Zangeki no Reginleiv
Just finished the darn game last Sunday, its a really fun game. So far there are no announcements if it will ever reach U.S. shores. Zangeki no Reginleiv is a action game for the Wii developed by Sandlot and published by Nintendo. It is the first game I ever saw in a black case. Zangeki no Reginleiv is adapted from the Ragnarok story of Norse mythology. You will be able to control one of the two angelic siblings Frøy and Freia, who serve the Norse gods by battling the races of giant that have emerged, leading to the eventual re-birth of the world.
The objective of the game is pretty simple, "Kick giant ass!" The enemies in this game are huge, as in Monster Hunter huge! And the funny thing about this game is they attack in numbers? How many? Like in Dynasty Warriors many. The game utilizes the Wii motion plus accessory for more accurate slicing action. As Kaz Hirai said "attack the enemy's weak point for massive damage", the fun thing about this game is that there are only a few enemies that actually have weak points. There are a ton of weapons in this game, from great swords that slice from long distances to arrows that blow up like nuclear missiles. Frøy is more of a close range fighter while Freia is the long range magic user. I prefer the remote and nunchuck control scheme. To slice the enemy in twain using a sword, you literally draw a line by a quick doing a quick slicing motion, like a real sword, once a line appears on the screen, any enemy within the range will be wiped out by that one stroke alone. Using the bow in this game is just like the archery minigame in Wii Sports Resort, you will be pulling back the remote like an arrow while holding the B and A buttons while the nunchuck will be the virtual bow, releasing the buttons will release the arrow, some of the arrows require a charge time before releasing, and in Freia's case, you can lock on multiple enemies and jackpot! The hammer is pretty fun to use as well, turning your giant enemy into a helpless giant golf ball, FORE!
The fun part in this game is collecting the various weapons which have different effects based on the elements you have collected from your fallen enemies. There is a also a multiplayer feature in where up to 4 players can beat up enemies in different stages, earning elements to unlock more weapons. I had no problem with the network connection in the multiplayer mode, it was really fun smacking enemies around as a group. The multiplayer has a different save file though, so basically the weapons you have earned in single player does not carry over in multiplayer, but who cares? When you're having fun, you don't really mind the details.
Notice the CERO D rating on the lower left of the box? Its the Japanese equivalent of the M rating given by the ESRB. Yes it's that violent, the game is literally a bloodbath. The only disappointment in this game is the slowdown that occurs if there is a ton of enemies on screen, other than that, the game is awesome. I would really recommend this to people looking for a unique game.
