Miyamoto Musashi: Dream of the Last Samurai

I actually thought this was an animation based on the story of the life of Miyamoto Musashi. It turned out to be a documentary. There were a lot of books and stories written about his legendary battles and teachings. It was also Musashi who wrote one of the key texts in the Book of the Five rings. But one question still remains, what motivated him to adopt and perfect the dual bladed style (Ni-Ten Ichi Ryu)?

Its basically about a researcher that tries to demystify the false image of the legendary Miyamoto Musashi created by centuries of contradicting data.

The movie was directed by the famous Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor the Movie). If you have seen the Minipato series, then basically this movie has the same approach, the only thing is, the main topic is Miyamoto Musashi.

Knowing its a Mamoru Oshii movie, expect a lot of talking, but once the battle scenes start, you won't be able to take your eyes off the screen. The animation Production I.G. usually comes up with is smooth and flawless. I would recommend this usually for Miyamoto Musashi fans. To those who want to watch this just for the sake of it, I don't think I could recommend this for you.
