Tokyo Game Show: Update Barrage!
I wish I was there... |
Fresh from the Tokyo Game Show 2010 floor, there's been some awesome gaming news that just hit this weekend.
When I say gaming, I mean electronic, not tabletop. Sorry, guys.
Anyway, below are some of the highlights:
Radiant Silvergun coming to Xbox Live Arcade
One of Treasure's most sought-after gems, Radiant Silvergun was one of the last games to come out for the Sega Saturn, and consequently became one of the rarest. It's a top-down shooter, widely considered one of the best, from one of my favorite developers, and now it won't cost more than $200 (going price of the original game on eBay) to play. FWIW, Ikaruga is also available on Xbox Live Arcade, making the 360 officially the best console for shooters (traditional, bullet hell, 1st person or otherwise).
重鉄騎 Juutekki / Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor for Kinect
From Software and Capcom are collaborating on a 3rd Tekki / Steel Battalion game. Steel Battalion came with a 40-button controller (check it out on the game's Wikipedia page), but instead of the controller, it seems this version uses Microsoft's Kinect camera. I'm guessing it will use your gestures to simulate operating the cockpit and your viewpoint. How ironic is it that a game that originally used a custom controller is moving to a system that doesn't need one?
New PSP-3000 colors, no new PSP Go news
Yay! New PSP colors! More excuses to buy a new PSP! What, people can buy multiple iPods, but not multiple PSPs? The one on top is the Monster Hunter PSP, in time for Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. As you can see, the back portion is raised. The reason for this is that this particular PSP has the larger battery pack (not sure if it's the 1800 mAh or the 2200 mAh battery) for extended MonHun sessions. The analog stick has been modified as well to a concave shape (similar to the 3DS or the X360 analog stick) for 'better comfort'.
If you're not too keen on that, there's also the red/black and blue/white variants. The red/black version is making its way to the US as the God of War: Ghost of Sparta PSP bundle.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 landing in arcades
Just a teaser at the show, but a new Tekken Tag gives hope that they're bringing back all the characters possible. I just wanna see Jun Kazama in HD (and possibly team her up with Asuka).
戦場のヴァルキュリア3 / Valkyria Chronicles 3 for PSP, for REALZ
Valkyria Chronicles (Senjou no Valkyria) is like a turn-based RTS. Or is it more like a chess game crossed with Gears of War? The 2nd Valkyria sequel has been announced for PSP again (poor PS3), just when the english version of Valkyria Chronicles 2 was released. Dang. But it's still awesome. If you have a PSP, play it. Just do it.
Fire Pro Wrestling returning with... Avatars
Finally, one of the weirder announcements. Fire Pro Wrestling, one of the pillars of Japanese wrestling games, is coming back with a vengeance... by using Xbox 360 Avatars as characters.
Apparently, only avatars will be used. No realistic looking, muscular men. Makes me want to get a Spartan Helmet for my Avatar.
