ANGRY BIRDS: STAR WARS
I really did not like Angry Birds at first due to the fact that I felt it was overrated at the time. But once they slapped the Star Wars theme on the game, well lets just say that was force pushed in the trend. The fact that they incorporated the use of lightsabers, blasters and force powers into the game made this game a must play for Star Wars enthusiasts.
WHERE'S MY MICKEY?
Based on the new Mickey Mouse shorts that aired on Disney Channel, This "Where's my Water" spin off is downright wacky and as funny as the new Mickey shorts. There are several themes for the game, from making lemonade to getting water from a hot desert, these puzzles will reward you with the funniest cutscenes everytime you clear a level. This is one of the few mobile games that actually made me spend money for the DLC. The replayability is quite high in this game since it will make you aim for three stars, there are also collectibles hidden in each level that unlocks a puzzle.
ENDLESS RUN THEMED GAMES
This is one game genre that was meant for mobile devices. Its quick fun and challenging. The controls are easy but the game itself is hard to master, it relies purely on skill. I wasn't really a fan of Temple Run, but the games that came after that actally caught my attention. PITFALL! Based on the ATARI 2600 bestseller, you take control of Pitfall Harry. You run, jump, slide the various obstacles to reach the next area, and somewhere in the middle of the game you get to ride a motorcycle. This is quite similar to Temple Run, the only difference is you get to use your whip against creatures like snakes and giant scorpions that get in your way. The main character's side comments while playing the game is also funny as heck.
SONIC DASH
The game is very similar to the Wii exclusive titles that SEGA released. Sonic will run at a constant pace and all you need to do is navigate him through the obstacles. The usual spin dash move is present in this game and can be used on enemies. There is also a dash bar on the side, once its filled up you can use it to boost through the level without worrying about the obstacles, Sonic will just break through them. Boss battles are present in this game.
IRON MAN 3
Instead of running, Iron Man flies through the levels. Avoid obstacles and use your repulsors to blast your enemies to smitherines. Progressing through the game gives you new armor and abilities, and you'll run into boss battles as well.
MINION RUSH
The Minions of Despicable Me are back and have their own game. The game is pretty much what you'd expect from an endless run game. The game has a bunch of power ups that you can pick up in the middle of the game. Slamming into other Minions will earn you despicable points and boss battles are present in this game as well.
REAL RACING 3
Developed by Firemonkeys studio and published by EA. This is pretty much the closest you can get to Gran Turismo on mobile. The motion controls are good and the graphics are awesome. The selection of cars in this game is pretty good. I'll also praise the social media integration here in where you can race against your friends through their ghost data. Update is constant in the game though since new cars are added almost every time.
CSR RACING
The entire game is based on how good you shift up or down, as you progress you get new parts and other upgrades that would help you with eliminating the competition. Its a fairly simple game, gets repetitive though, I prefer to play it until your allotted fuel for the day has run out then play it again later. Great thing about this game is it includes the McLaren F1 as one of the cars that could be purchased.
POPCORK!
From COLOPL a Japanese game developer. It features a Japanese festival game in where you use a pop gun and shoot the prizes off the shelf. Each prize has its own weight and toughness, you just need to know where to hit it to knock it off. As you progress through the game, upgrades can be purchased from increasing the power of the gun to the size of the cork. Once in a while a boss battle occurs in where an Oni shows up with a ton of targets on his body, you have to finish it within the time limit. Other power ups randomly appear, from shotguns, laser cannons, to a bazooka that clears out the entire stall. The motion controls are very accurate, the game itself is fun and addictive, I highly suggest this one.
RIDICULOUS FISHING
I found this game out while reading WIRED. It roughly cost somewhere like 2 British pounds. The objective is to have your hook sink to the lowest part of the area without hitting anything and once it starts ascending hook all the fish that you can, try to avoid the jellyfish though since they give negative points. Once the fish reaches the surface, they scatter in the air and you have to shoot them down. The more fish you shoot the more money you get. You can upgrade your equipment and access new areas as you progress through the game.
There are still a ton of good games out there, I also happened to try Flappy Bird which happened to be a quite challenging game, I did enjoy it though. It's almost as challenging as QWOP, I actually got a score of 10 on that game, some people go as far as 75 or more, I won't go as far as that though, there are more pressing matters than getting a high score for that game. For those that did it, well good for you. But as I have said, I prefer actual consoles over mobile devices. If I want a game, I prefer a complete one, even if it means buying it. But going mobile is not such a bad thing. But as far as Nintendo going mobile, I prefer they stick with their own system, it is when they make games for their own systems that they actually shine.
