Nintendo Conference 2011

As you guys already know, Nintendo never actually participated in the Tokyo Game Show, instead they hold their own press conference. Despite the upcoming launch of "Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" in which Shigeru Miyamoto personally promoted the title for Wii in this conference, the focus of the entire conference seems to be towards the 3DS.
Shigeru Miyamoto complete with Hylian shield and master sword
A lot of new games have been announced for the handheld, some which may never reach US shores. I personally have never seen the event personally. But thanks to the "Minna no Nintendo Channel" in the Wii, I actually got a peek in what happened in the conference.

More features for the handheld was announced, that includes more features for StreetPass and 3D video recording functionality. This will probably be done through a firmware update sometime this November.
A new slide pad extension was also announced for the system. It was said that there are already several future games that would support this feature, this also includes Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D. The peripheral will be released in Japan this December 10 for around  ¥1,500 which is pretty reasonable.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition
This DSi Ware title will be available for free starting from the 28th of September to the 20th of February 2012. This promo is part of the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. The game will be featuring stages from the first game, Zelda DX and Link to the Past.

Animal Crossing
A developer interview was done by the producer of the series Katsuya Eguchi. The interview was given to the director Aya Kyogoku, designer Koji Takahashi, and sound director Issei Todaka. Questions for the interview came from a questionaire given to Club Nintendo members. The interview was about the new features of the 3DS version of Animal Crossing.

SD Gundam G Generation 3D
A turn based strategy game by Namco Bandai which features almost every unit in the Gundam universe. This specific title will also feature the Gunpla Builders universe and the newest in the series Gundam AGE. There has never been a US port of G Generation games, I won't really expect this game to reach US shores.

Three-dimensional flowers and Creature Encyclopedia
Think of it as a real life Pokedex. It contains a lot of info on almost every plant and creature. This contains 3D images of plants and videos of creatures in their natural habitat.

Dynasty Warriors VS (Shin Sangoku Musou VS)
Sengoku Musou Chronicles did very well as a launch title for the 3DS. So KOEI will be releasing another musou game for the handheld.  In the game you create a team of 3 characters and battle against three other teams, the goal is to capture the rival headquarters, you can freely switch between your 3 characters in battle. Certain characters can cast magic spells, for the first time in the series. This will feature a four player competitive multiplayer mode.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
The third installment of the Metal Gear Solid series is coming to the 3DS in stereoscopic 3D. This version will have several new features which includes motion control and a photo camouflage system. This game will be compatible with the new slide pad peripheral.

BRAVELY DEFAULT: Flying Fairy
This new title from Square-Enix may be the first RPG to ever use Augmented Reality technology. Based on the first impressions on this game, this will be under the classic RPG genre. No announcement on the localization of the game yet.

Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai
Project Mirai plays almost the same way as Project Diva, the only difference is that Miku is in her nendoroid form. An AR feature is also featured in the game in where you can watch Miku perform on your desk or at the palm of your hand. This game may be one of the biggest reasons to actually get a Japanese 3DS.

Tomodachi Collection
The life simulator of the DSi is now in 3D! This game is pretty similar to the Sims, but the characters in this game actually speaks Japanese instead of a made up language. Characters in this game also gain experience by giving them food, gifts, clothes or special items. This game progresses in real time using the 3DS internal clock, they wake up in the morning and sleep at night. Funny part in this game is you can even enter the dreams of the characters. The new feature in this game is you can now have a offspring in this game.

New Love Plus
An updated version of Love Plus for the Nintendo DS. Its basically the same game with new features and better graphics. The game will now use the same technology used for aiming in Ocarina of Time 3D, the AR feature will make you feel like the girl is actually with you inside the room, and you can take pictures of the girl as well. The game will remain in 2D, since the characters actually switch from one screen to another, they actually kept everything in 2D for consistency. But the pictures you take will be in 3D.

Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy
The first Final Fantasy rhythm game. Kinda excited to find out how this game actually works. Just like Dissidia, it will feature a character from each Final Fantasy title. The music will feature "One Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy VII, "Terra's Theme" from Final Fantasy VI, "Waltz for the Moon" from Final Fantasy VIII and more.

Super Mario 3D Land
Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata interviews Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto.

Mario Kart 7
Watch out for that blue shell! Mario Kart 7 is here. Its that game that made kart racing fun. Similar to other games in the Mario Kart series, it incorporates various characters from the Mario games racing with one another on Mario game-themed tracks. New additions to the game include hang-gliding attachments for karts and the ability to drive underwater.

Fire Emblem
One of Nintendo's best turn based strategy games is on the 3DS. A must have for turn based strategy loving pricks like myself.

Kid Icarus Uprising
Let me be honest with you guys, I never actually played Kid Icarus before, so in a way I have no idea what the appeal of the game is, unless I try it out on virtual console. Anyway from what I've seen in the trailers so far, I think this will be a great game.

Mario Tennis
It's Mario and he's playing tennis! From the Nintendo 64, to the Game Boy Color, to the GameCube console then ported to the Wii and now, the 3DS. I've played several of the Mario sports series and so far I have not been disappointed. Mario Tennis in the palm of your hand. Makes me think how they will utilize the dual screens on this one.

Luigi's Mansion 2
The sequel to the GameCube's most successful launch title. Ghost catching has never looked so good. Shigeru Miyamoto stated that Luigi's Mansion 2 will be more puzzled-oriented than the original, and Toad will assist Luigi in accomplishing various goals. Several of Luigi's movements can be controlled using either button presses or motion control via the Nintendo 3DS gyroscope and accelerometer.

Paper Mario
Gameplay in Paper Mario 3DS is similar to that of the original Paper Mario and its first sequel, where combat consists of turn-based battles, though its papercraft visual style has been updated to take advantage of the 3D capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS in order to create a sense of depth.

Girl's Mode
Known as Style Savvy in PAL regions is a fashion shop simulator. The player can buy clothes, accessories, change hair styles, change outfits, and work on their shop by managing items, making ads, and more. In the contest they can compete and stand a chance to win a rare item.

Calcio Bit
One of the most successful soccer titles in the Game Boy Advance comes to the 3DS. It kinda reminds me of Sensible Software's Sensible Soccer back in 1992.

Winning Eleven 2012
Another soccer title for the handheld. Like previous versions of the game, it will be exclusively licensed by UEFA to contain the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup competitions along with a license from CONMEBOL to feature the Copa Santander Libertadores. Referees' governing UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup matches will wear the official UEFA Champions League uniforms, which is a first for the series. Among the new features is the Teammate Control system, where a secondary player may be controlled, either during play, or at a set piece or throw-in. This allows players to be placed precisely, make runs, and shake off markers before calling for the ball. Manual and assisted versions of the feature are available for varying degrees of difficulty and control.

Sonic Generations
The game features levels derived from 20 years of Sonic history, spreading across three eras: Classic, Dreamcast and Modern. Each level can be played with either Classic Sonic or Modern Sonic, each taking their own routes throughout the level. The 3DS version uses the 2D gameplay of the Sonic Rush series. Unlike the console ports, the 3DS version will feature special stages (based on the ones from Sonic Heroes) and a multiplayer versus mode, and the majority of stages included will be different from those of the console versions. The development team is also currently considering the inclusion of stages from previous handheld Sonic titles in the 3DS version.

Girls RPG: Cinderella life
Girl’s RPG: Cinderella Life was originally a comical hostess simulation game on cell phones. Developed by Level-5. This is a game in where players manage hostesses in a high class night club called Castle. The girls are completely customize-able in this game with over a thousand clothes, hair styles, faces, and accessories to choose from. Like its cell phone counterpart, Girl’s RPG will have lots of other guest characters. Famitsu mentions the following, some new and some appearing from the cell phone version:

  • Lupin and Fujiko Mine from Lupin the 3rd
  • Shinichi Chiaki from Nodame Cantabile
  • Jo Yabuki from Tomorrow’s Joe (Ashita no Jo)
  • Kaiji Ito from Tobaku Mikushiroku Kaiji
  • Kintaro Yajima from Salaryman Kintaro
  • Yujiro Hanma from Baki the Grappler
  • Mamoru Endou and Yuuto Kidou from Inazuma Eleven will be making guest appearances in the game as well.

Screen shot taken from the cellphone version
Culdcept
A turn-based strategy video game. It has drawn comparisons to other modern strategy titles, and also shares features with non-video games Monopoly and Magic: The Gathering. In Culdcept, the player takes on the role of a Cepter. Cepters are beings that have the ability to use magical cards to summon creatures, cast spells, and perform various other feats of wizardry. As players advance through the game, they earn additional cards that they can use to create customised "books" (decks of 50 cards) with which to better defeat their foes.

Labyrinth no Kanata
Developed by Tri-Ace and published by Konami. The only information I got on this game is that you'll be following a girl around a labyrinth. You'll be battling enemies along the way as well, as for the story and the characters, there is not much information on it yet.

Rhythm Kaitou R: Koutei Napoleon no Isan
A rhythm game by SEGA, I guess the best way to explain the game is to watch the trailer.

Shinrei Camera
Fatal Frame for the 3DS. Since Zero: Tsukihami no Kamen (Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse) never made it to US shores, I kinda have doubts that this one would. But if we're lucky, you'll never know. The trailer featured the use of augmented reality and motion controls to aim the camera.

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games
Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic games will be released exclusively for the Wii and the Nintendo 3DS. It will feature new games like equestrian, judo, synchronized swimming and many more.

Tekken 3D: Prime Edition
This trailer shows the rivalry between Street Fighter director Yoshinori Ono and Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada. This was the funniest trailer shown in the conference.

Biohazard: Revelations
Biohazard: Revelations will see a return to the survival horror gameplay of earlier series installments, with returning elements such as a limited supply of ammunition, and more emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving. The game will be the eighth installment in the Biohazard main series. It is currently in development by Capcom, and is scheduled for a release in early 2012.

Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble
The second Ace Combat game to be released in a Nintendo handheld. I'm a pretty big fan of the Ace Combat series and I can't wait to get my hands on this game.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
This game will be set in between Kingdom Hearts II and III. The two playable characters are Sora and Riku, and control of both characters will rotate throughout the game. A new gauge called the "Drop Gauge" was featured in the game's first trailer, which Nomura stated would be easier to understand when playing it.

Monster Hunter Tri G
One of the biggest announcements in the conference. This will be the first Monster Hunter game in a Nintendo handheld. This is an update of Monster Hunter Tri with more monsters and the return of the dual blades, gun lance, hunting horn, and bow. Some people actually confuse this with Monster Hunter Portable 3rd which was released in the PSP which is a completely different game.

Monster Hunter 4
A bigger announcement than having Monster Hunter Tri on the 3DS. This will be the first numbered Monster Hunter ever to be released in a handheld. Kinda makes me wonder what kind of new features they would add in this. Maybe a sky stage this time?
